The Doors "L.A. Woman"
Analogue Productions
2 LP's 180g 45rpm, Gatefold
Mastered by Doug Sax using All-Tube system from the Original Analog Master Tapes
Pressed at QRP in USA

The last Doors album recorded with Jim Morrison, who died shortly after it was released.

The title track has, said one reviewer, "maybe the best Chuck Berry riffs since the Stones." And that's not even mentioning "Love Her Madly" which became one of the highest charting hits for The Doors.

L.A. Woman was still high on the charts when, like in the lyric "actor out on loan" of its closing track - the celebrated "Riders on the Storm," Jim Morrison died in a Paris bathtub in the summer of 1971.

Via such tracks as "The Changeling", "Crawling King Snake," and the frothy, rollicking title track, the collection leaned heavily toward the Blues - in particular, Morrison's boastful "Lizard King" brand of it. All-in-all, Rolling Stone proclaimed L.A. Woman, "The Doors' greatest album, including their first".

Analogue Productions did a truly authentic reissue project, the masters were recorded on tube equipment, and the tape machine used by Doug Sax for the transfer of these releases was a tube machine, as was the cutting system.

Pressed at RTI in USA

After spending 15 years building the gear for his new endeavor, Cohearent Records — which is an All-Valve (Vacuum Tube) recording system from microphones to disk cutterhead — award-winning mastering engineer Kevin Gray releases the first LP by jazz saxophonist Kirsten Edkins, Shapes & Sound.

Kirsten Edkins, a young composer and saxophonist from Los Angeles, is an exciting prospect. Kirsten graduated from Eastman School of Music on scholarship. She studied composition and arranging with Bill Dobbins, as well as Walt Weiskopf and the legendary Ray Ricker. Before her time at Eastman she studied with Bob Sheppard, a jazz recording artist and woodwind specialist.

Kirsten is a highly sought-after improviser and has performed with Arturo Sandoval (Al "Tootie" Heath), Tim Hagans, Clay Jenkins, John Beasley and Geoffrey Keezer. She has also performed with the Clare Fischer Big Band, Bill Holman Big Band, Bernie Dresel Big Band (The BBB), Sara Gazarek, Gary Foster, Joe LaBarbara, Larry Goldings and Clay Jenkins. Kirsten has appeared on television shows such as American Idol, Duets, Knight Rider, Glee, Bones and The Tonight Show.

Kirsten is joined on Shapes & Sound by Gerald Clayton (courtesy of Blue Note) on piano, Ahmet Turkmenoglu on bass, Lemar Guillary on trombone and Chris Wabich on drums.

Alice Coltrane "Journey In Satchidananda"
Acoustic Sounds Series/Impulse
LP 180g 33rpm, Gatefold
Mastered by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound from the Original Analog Tapes
Pressed at Quality Record Pressings in U.S.A.

"Satchidananda means knowledge, existence, bliss. Listen with your inner ear to Alice along with Pharoah Sanders, Charlie Haden, Rashied Ali, Cecil McBee, and others." - Downbeat

Alice Coltrane had become a disciple of Swami Satchidananda, which explains the title of her 1971 masterpiece, Journey in Satchidananda, recorded November 8, 1970 (except for one live track) and issued in January of 1971. It was recorded at the Coltrane home studio in Dix Hills, New York.

The band for the studio tracks included Alice Coltrane, piano, harp; Pharoah Sanders, soprano saxophone, percussion; Cecil McBee, double bass; Rashied Ali, drums; Tulsi, tanpura; and Majid Shabazz, bells, tambourine. For "Isis and Osiris," recorded live July 4, 1970 at The Village Gate in New York City, the group was: Alice Coltrane, harp; Pharoah Sanders, soprano saxophone, percussion; Charlie Haden, double bass; Rashied Ali, drums; and Vishnu Wood, oud.

AllMusic says the landmark Journey to Satchidananda reveals just how far the pianist and widow of John Coltrane had come in the three years after his death. "The compositions here are wildly open and droning figures built on whole tones and minor modes. And while it's true that one can definitely hear her late husband's influence on this music, she wouldn't have had it any other way. Pharoah Sanders' playing on the title cut, 'Shiva-Loka,' and 'Isis and Osiris' (which also features the Vishnu Wood on oud and Charlie Haden on bass) is gloriously restrained and melodic.".

TAS Super LP List! Special Merit: Informal
Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums of All Time - Rated 7/500!

The Best Sounding Version of this Album at 45rpm !!!

A fine offering from one of England's oldest bands, this album mixes a generous blend of pop and rock that appeals to both sexes: Women like it because it is "listenable", men like it because most of the songs are borderline romantic without being mushy.

With Rumours, Fleetwood Mac produced one of the most celebrated albums (and one of the best-selling albums) of all time. While Fleetwood Mac had finally attained their long-desired commercial success, the band was fraying apart behind the scenes. The McVies divorced in 1976, and the Buckingham and Nicks' romance ended shortly afterward. The internal tensions formed the basis for the songs on their best album, Rumours. Released in the spring of 1977, Rumours became a blockbuster success, topping the American and British charts and generating the Top Ten singles "Go Your Own Way," "Dreams," "Don't Stop," and "You Make Loving Fun." It would eventually sell over 17 million copies in the U.S. alone, making it the second biggest-selling album of all time. Rumours reads like a greatest hits package rather than an incredible record. This album is a must have release in every sense of the word.

Rated 4.5/5 Music, 4.5/5 Sonics - The Absolute Sound (TAS)

"This is a superb sounding reissue that every Miles fan should own. It's as close to hearing Miles Davis play live in a small club as you're ever going to hear." - Michael Fremer, Music 9/10, Sound 9/10

With Miles Davis on Trumpet, Hank Mobley on tenor sax, and the rhythm section of Wynton Kelly on piano, Paul Chambers on bass and Jimmy Cobb on drums.

Miles Davis' two night stand at The Blackhawk in San Francisco marked a watershed in jazz history, a seminal event transforming the American musical landscape. Davis had never been recorded live in a club with his combo and the performances over the course of two sets a night on April 21 and 22, 1961 more than justify the legend. The New York Times, in its review of the Columbia Records release of the complete Blackhawk shows, called the music "the gold standard for straight-ahead, postwar jazz rhythm".

Few musicians have embodied the romantic, and ultimately tragic, jazz figure as totally as Chesney "Chet" Baker (1929-88). Unschooled yet eloquent in his music, the Baker mystique has only reinforced one of the most haunting trumpet styles and ingenuous approaches to jazz singing. Chet is Chet Baker's classic 1959 Riverside album featuring jazz legends Bill Evans, Kenny Burrell, Herbie Mann and Pepper Adams. Recorded & Mixed by Jim Anderson in DXD Ultra-High Resolution (32bit/352.8kHz)

Similar in concept to her earlier classic NIGHTCLUB,
CLIQUE! gives Patricia and her long-time band (Jon Deitemyer, drums; Patrick Mulcahy, bass; Neal Alger, guitar; Jim Gailloreto, tenor sax) a stellar showcase for their telepathic musical communication and consummate jazz chops.

These are relaxed, communal sessions. Her core trio ride up and down, in and out of Barber's complex, sensitive playing and singing. Their support allows her to shine brightly while digging out striking moments for their own unique contributions. The chemistry is palpable, all encompassing. This group's long-developed synergy - painstakingly curated by these musicians for years - provides both a metaphor and the perfect title for her new album.

This is a Digital Master Recording but the sound of this 45rpm double record is Incredible !!!

TAS (the absolute sound) Music 5/5 Sonics 5/5

One of jazz music's most celebrated and literate artists gets the deluxe Impex Treatment on her 2019 collection Higher, available on 2-LP 45-rpm HQ-180 vinyl pressed at RTI. This thoughtfully curated set features Barber's celebrated art song cycle "Higher" and four bonus tracks available on vinyl for the first time. Stereophile's Robert Baird describes Higher as an album that "continues Barber's logical artistic path toward becoming an artist whose only boundaries exist in the limits of her own prodigious imagination. Rather than just the completion of a long-held desire to create art songs, Higher, as its title suggest, is the answer to a calling, one Patricia Barber is gloriously answering."

After the success of the song-cycle EU tour version of Higher, Impex Records is proud to announce this exclusive complete version, featuring the original's ten songs, plus an alternate version of "The Opera Song", featuring lyric soprano Katherine Werbiansky, and three gorgeous new standards ("Early Autumn", "In Your Own Sweet Way" and "Secret Love"). Legendary recording and mix engineer Jim Anderson's meticulous production provides masterly rendering of every detail, harmonic, and hushed background, while the delicate touch of mastering engineer Scott Hull helps to pull you into the wide-ranging space of this incredible work.

Impex's hushed surfaces and incredibly rendered soundstage are brilliantly served by these expressive tracks, bringing out both the core of Barber's hushed delivery and the dynamic interplay of her crack backing band. The package includes an expanded large-format booklet (featuring a new write up from Patricia Barber herself!) and deluxe finishing for a luxurious tactile experience that matches the audio. As with every record we make, our goal is to enhance the enveloping sound and emotional pull of singular works by one of our greatest talents. Higher is the amazing next chapter in our odyssey and a superb listening experience for fans and audiophiles alike.

Eddie Higgins "You Don't Know What Love Is"
Venus Records
LP 33rpm 180g
Mixed and mastered by Tetsuo Hara
Venus Hyper Magnum Sound Direct Mix Stereo
with OBI, Japanese pressing

One Of Eddie Higgins' Best Recordings On 180g Vinyl LP!

Through his numerous releases from Venus Records, Eddie Higgins has firmly established his position as one of the most celebrated jazz pianists in Japan. He has also performed and recorded with many of the biggest names in jazz, including Coleman Hawkins, Jack Teagarden, Stan Getz, Dizzy Gillespie and Wayne Shorter.

Eddie Higgins has been on the jazz scene for a long time, but he seems to be a best-kept secret by those able to track down his various releases for independent labels in the U.S. or Japanese titles, such as this one from Venus. This 2003 session features the veteran purely as a soloist, performing a dozen of his favorite ballads. While most of them are time-tested standards such as the elegant 'My Funny Valentine,' the shimmering 'Beautiful Love,' or 'Skylark' (with an Asian-sounding introduction that suggests the humor of its composer), there are some lesser-known gems as well...This is easily one of Eddie Higgins' best all-around recordings.
-Ken Dryden, AllMusic

Beautiful Music with Extraordinary Sound Quality !!!
Note: this record should be OUT OF PRINT soon and the price will sky rocket as our stock become less and less...

Kenny Dorham "Matador"
IMPEX
LP 33rpm 180g
LIMITED EDITION of 5000 NUMBERED
Mastered By Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering
from the Original Analogue Master Tapes
Pressed at R.T.I. in U.S.A.

When you hear it, you'll scratch your head raw that this under-appreciated gem has been missing for so long.

Working with a soulful Jackie McLean on alto, a loose and swinging Bobby Timmons on piano, and the locked-in rhythm section of Teddy Smith on bass and J.C. Moses on drums, the playing is spontaneous, energetic and expressive.

Recorded in a single day in 1962, Matador contains the sprawling epic McLean-penned "Melanie" (a suite in three parts), as well as Dorham's smoldering "El Matador" and a stirring take on "Beautiful Love".

Emotional musical exploration ties to readily approachable post-bop structure that make for a snappy, yet heady, mix of tunes that put a tap in your foot while engaging your head and heart.

Chris Bellman cut Matador from the original analog master tape (one of the few that survived the Universal warehouse fire of 2008, lucky for us) and the sound is revelatory! Tight acoustics of the Soundmaker Studios provide tightened bass, crystal-clear drums and beautifully rounded tones from Dorham's and McLean's horns.

This is another fine example of Impex Records cutting through the fat of modern music-making to reveal the very essence of the music and the giant talents who created it.

We are elated to bring this sadly-neglected classic back for true believers to
add to their collection and (maybe more importantly) to a whole new generation to discover for the first time.

LIMITED EDITION of 2500 NUMBERED

Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Songs of All Time - Rated 319/500!

Roy Orbison's 1963 album on the Monument label takes its name from the hit single which, in 2004, was named one of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time by Rolling Stone. Besides the title track, the album also includes "Blue Bayou" and "All I Have To Do Is Dream."

In May 1963, and with the success of “In Dreams”, Wesley Rose eventually accepted an invitation for Roy to tour England on a bill with The Beatles, who meant nothing in the United States at that time. The tour was sold-out in one afternoon. On the first night, Roy did fourteen encores before The Beatles could get on stage.

A few things contributed to Roy Orbison’s success. The songs, the production, and the performance were key factors. The songs were completely original in structure, sound and style. Totally innovative compositions, that didn’t exist until then. It became a style. Fred Foster really went for quality instead of quantity. He was willing to splash money on a session without any guarantee of payback. He was also willing to take a chance on a sound that did not conform to accepted market norms.

Roy Orbison was one of the few hit-makers to hold his ground, and even to increase his popularity in the wake of the so-called British Invasion. He did it by maintaining a matchless quality of releases, with an original variety of content, structure, tempo and rhythm. He was also an extremely subtle song craftsman, making changes during the course of a session, or between sessions, adding the final commercial gloss to a song.

Michael Fremer's 100 Recommended All-Analog LP Reissues Worth Owning - Rated 49/100!

Classic 1971 Solo Album From Founding Member of The Byrds!
“White Light” is a bittersweet and knowing statement from a singer/songwriter at the peak of his creative powers. Having fronted The Byrds, Clark on his own here is stripped down in guitarist Jesse Ed Davis' stark production. The lyrics, singing and guitar playing are so powerful that less production here is immeasurably more musically.

White Light's 180-gram LP is 100% Analog Mastered by Kevin Gray from the phenomenal sounding 1/2" safety copies of the original stereo master tapes. The results are amazing! The beautiful guitar playing is full and rich, and listeners can hear the full body of the instruments, not just the strings. Gene's aching vocals have never been so emotive and immediate.
The album art is beautifully restored by Intervention Records Tom Vadakan and housed in a film-laminated, Old Style "Tip-On" jacket printed by Stoughton.

A never-before released Art Blakey 1965 live recording. First official release with the full permission and cooperation of the Art Blakey Estate & INA (Institut National de l’Audiovisuel).

This performance was recorded at Palais de la Mutualité, Paris, France, November 3, 1965.

Featuring Freddie Hubbard on trumpet, Jaki Byard on piano, Reggie Workman on bass, Nathan Davis on sax, and, of course, Blakey on drums. Freddie Hubbard's incendiary playing on "Blue Moon" and the blistering 24-minute version of his own "Crisis" shows that he was one of the most innovative trumpeters in jazz history.

Bruce Katz Band "Crescent Crawl"
sledgehammer blues
LP 33rpm 180g, Gatefold
Mastered & Lacquers by Bernie Grundman
LIMITED EDITION 2nd PRESSING of 1000
Made in R.T.I. U.S.A.

Valley Entertainment is based in New York City and was founded in 1994 by Barney Cohen and Jon Birge. they acquired all the recordings of the famous Audiophile Record Label "AudioQuest Music" and changed the name of the label to "sledgehammer blues".

Out-of-print since the original 1992 AudioQuest Music release, the album has become the label's most sought-after record. Bernie Grundman also handled the recording's original mastering duties. A cherished album in the audiophile jazz/blues community; original copies of the vinyl release have been commanding hundreds of dollars across the internet.
"Amazing" is the only way to describe Bruce Katz's piano and Hammond B-3 organ playing. He has awesome technique along with that important "something extra" - soul.
This album blurred the line between blues and jazz thanks in part to the use of an upright bass.
Remember that all the great AudioQuest Music recordings were produced by Joe Harley (Music Matters co-producer and Blue Note Tone Poet producer).

Michael Fremer's 100 Recommended All-Analog LP's Worth Owning - Rated 33/100
Pianist Yuko Mabuchi is joined by bassist Del Atkins and drummer Bobby Breton for this audiophile recording of four popular and jazz tunes recorded in The Brain and Creativity Institute's Cammilleri Hall, March 31, 2017.
If Mabuchi’s playing can be described as tasteful, economical, and lyrical, it should also be noted that her rapid single-note runs are impeccably executed. The performances benefit from an exceptionally realistic recording that stands out for its in-the-room ambience and tonal clarity.
